The coffee makes it Magic!

Black Magic Cake

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups sugar

3/4 cups Hershey’s Cocoa

2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. salt

2 eggs

1 cup brewed strong black coffee
(or 2 tsp. instant coffee plus 1 cup boiling water)

1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
(1 tbsp. butter to 1 cup milk)

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup vegetable oil


Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add eggs, coffee, buttermilk, oil and vanilla. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Batter will be thin. Pour batter into a greased 13˝x9˝x2˝ pan or two 9˝ cake pans. Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes for oblong pan – 30-35 minutes for layer pans. Frost with your favorite vanilla frosting.
